People procrastinate or become lazy when they are tired or when they feel resistant to work. A lazy person lacks the self-control to do anything requiring effort. What does the Bible have to say about laziness? The Biblical term for laziness is slothfulness and Proverbs describes a lazy person as a sluggard. The Bible tells us how awful lazy people are and how laziness is sin. Laziness is one of the topics that can be found in the book of Proverbs. There are more than twenty verses about this topic. The book of Proverbs provides us with wisdom concerning laziness and motivates us to avoid laziness. To understand what the Proverbs teaches on laziness, we have to see the characteristics of laziness. The book of Proverbs 21:25-26 and 23:12 states that their love of sleep and laziness will cause them death and they will get killed. Lastly, the Bible teaches us that we need to live our life as a hard worker. Everyone should know what needs to be done first. We should not put our work off until it is too late to finish it (Proverbs 20:4). God will recognize the hard workers and he will provide everything that they need. Basically, Proverbs 6:6-11 summarize the teaching on laziness. â€Å"6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! 7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, 8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. 9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? 10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest 11 and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man (New International version Proverbs 6:6-11). God wants a lazy person to learn from the ants. In these verses, ants are the wise one and teacher to a lazy person. It shows that hard worker like the ant is self-motivated to work. They are diligent and hard worker without excuses. Because they work hard, they have food, money for the future.
